April Ross
April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball athletes to win medals at least twice in an Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman, a first-time Olympian. In addition, Ross is aiming to capture her first Olympic gold. This may be the last chance she'll ever have at age 39. But she's still confident of achieving top honours. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing consistently or well they can earn a gold. Additionally, I'm going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her father, mother and younger sister. At Newport Harbor High School, she competed in numerous sports. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball as well as basketball as well as running and track. She was definitely a cut above the rest when it came to the second sport. As per her biography, during high school she played volleyball as an outside hitter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her in volleyball. Ross Klineman and Ross may have begun working together at the beginning of 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned volleyball player before they joined forces. Actually Ross has won a number of major tournaments in her career together with two other partners. One of them is a legend. From 2007 to 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Together with Kessy Ross was an ace on the international circuit winning a world title in 2009. The duo eventually captured a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team as well as Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor after she had retired. They were able to win the beach volleyball bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross began her college career with the USC Trojans in her high school days. This was years before Ross made her debut on the sand and turned pro. Her experience at USC was quite impressive. In 2000, as a freshman she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year awards and was an All-American. The Trojans were also able to reach the Final Four with her help. After her sophomore year, she experienced a terrible personal loss and still managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Through her final two seasons with the Trojans, she helped them win consecutive championships. She was a great player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female college volleyball player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Sadly, Ross mom Margie was not able to witness her daughter ascend to the highest levels of beach volleyball stardom. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer while she was a sophomore at USC. Ross is still awed by her late parent. Margie is a source of inspiration in her life and on the beach.
